Christina Kanu is a passionate leader, dedicated visionary, and committed to the empowerment of people through her positive influence.

Born to Abdul and Serwah Kanu and a native of Northern Virginia, Christina, since the tender age of six, has had a passionate goal to lead and take authority of situations. She successfully accomplished this goal throughout grade school; however, she hit a new era in leadership at Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA) where she received her Bachelors of Art in English Literature. Graduating Magna Cum Laude only begins to speak on the impact Kanu had on the institution.

While excelling in scholarship, Kanu also had a tenacious drive to excel in service initiatives and extracurricular endeavors. Not only did she serve as the President of the Theta Chi Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated, she too sought out for greater impact on the campus by serving as the President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, which governs the historically African-American fraternities and sororities.

Heavily involved in multicultural initiatives, social-justice issues, and leadership empowerment, Kanu was the recipient of prestigious awards making her extremely sought out for during her collegiate years. While far too many to list, some of her keynote awards include; The Old Dominion University NAACP Lifetime Student Achievement Award (2014), The Dr. Dana Burnett Sorority Woman of the Year Award (2013), and the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated International Undergraduate Sigma of the Year Award (2012). She also was a leading finalist for the 2014 Old Dominion University Kaufman Award, one of the most prestigious awards that the university offers.

Currently striving for higher, which is a testament to her moral compass; Kanu is pursuing a Master’s Degree in African American Studies at Clark Atlanta University (Atlanta, GA). Parallel to her undergraduate pursuits, Kanu continues to balance scholarship and service exponentially. Serving as the Director of Communications and Community Relations for Bonfire Impact, the co-facilitator for the Bonfire Impact and World Wide Women Group Dream Team Academy (a leadership program to develop and strengthen female leaders), Christina Kanu is a woman with purpose and an innate determination to bring about change.
