When you are starting a business the first step to success is to get out of your own way.
Yes it is you who is in your way. Stop placing the blame on other people.
It is easier to blame society, your family, friends, your 9-5 job, and everyone else for the lack of your success. When you have a dream it is up to you to execute. God gave you the dream not everyone else.
Entrepreneurship requires discipline but it doesn’t need to be complicated. Establishing a routine that works for you will eliminate a lot of headaches. However, before you can get to that stage you have to get out of the way. Surrender to the process and yield to the journey.
What does this look like ? I am glad that you asked.
Understand that you are no longer the same person. It isn’t always about you. It is about the success of your business. You may not be able to have every evening to yourself. You won’t always be able to just chill. You will have to invest money into your business. And people may think that you are acting funny. No you aren’t acting funny you are minding your business. Literally. Getting out of your own way means accepting that you are evolving as a person. You are no longer just (insert name) from (insert city). You are (insert name) the owner of (insert business). I encourage each of you to remind yourself that you are the owner of your business daily. It is easy to forget but the daily affirmation will embed it in your mind.
I would also recommend doing a self audit. What are your strengths as an entrepreneur ? What are your weaknesses ? After this process you will know how to proceed. Sometimes getting out of your own way means acknowledging you need help. For example, I am not a graphic artist. I do not like to create flyers etc. Therefore, I will have someone else do it for me. Another example is styling. I work with stylists or people with an eye for fashion for each of my shoots. I know that my strengths are planning and communication. I focus on my strengths and that is what makes business flow easier.
Today is the day to get out of your own way. Believe in yourself. Just imagine where you will be this time next year. Ready. Set. Go !
